The whole property is dominated by camphor laurels
(Cinnamomum camphora) and the house area also had many coral trees (Erythrina
sp). Both are declared weeds and will be removed wherever possible. Erythrina
can regrow from every tiny piece of twig so needs to be burned (or poisoned,
but we don't like that). We use some camphors as fuel to make sure it
all gets destroyed (Erythrina doesn't burn well). By the time we were
ready to burn, this pile was almost twice as big. It is sitting on our
small fruit orchard - an area close to the house where we will grow obscure,
rare and high maintenance fruit trees.
